Marian Osterweis, Ph.D. is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AHC). She is also the founding director of the AHC's Division of Global Health. Prior to joining the association in September, 1989, Dr. Osterweis spent six years at the Institute of Medicine, initially as a study director and then as the Associate Executive Officer for Program and Acting Director of the Division of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Dr. Osterweis held a senior staff position on the President's Commission of the Study of Ethical Problems in Medicine and Biomedical and Behavioral Research from 1981-1983 and was a member the faculty of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Georgetown University for ten years. She has published widely in the health services and health sciences policy arena with a special focus on workforce policy and education.
Dr. Osterweis is a graduate of Vassar College and received her doctorate in social relations and public health from The Johns Hopkins University.
