Understanding Managed Care: Learning the Essentials Through Case Presentations

is tailored for and available to the following audiences:

The CD-ROM establishes an introductory framework for understanding the principles and practices of managed care with emphasis on the changing role of the physician, sharing financial risk, allocating budgeted resources and improving quality. Development of the CD-ROM was supported through a $1.27 million grant from the national Partnerships for Quality Education Initiative, sponsored by The Pew Charitable Trusts.

The four courses in the interactive CD-ROM include:

Making Care Decisions at the End of Life: Three CD-ROM Series and Facilitator's Guide


This three-part series of trigger scenarios and roundtable
discussions is designed for facilitated discussions in small
groups or in Grand Rounds settings. It is intended to develop physicians' and other clinicians’ knowledge, comfort, and interactive skills so that they may better assist patients and families faced with "making care decisions at the end of life."

• Talking about Death and Dying
• Withdrawing or Withholding Care
• Dealing with Medical Futility

Goals
• To raise awareness of gaps in delivery of end-of-life care;
• To highlight the ethical and clinical responsibilities of those who provide care to patients with life-threatening conditions.

Designed for facilitated discussions in small groups or Grand Rounds settings. Also useful for self-paced study.
