THCI works with residency training program directors, physician leaders, and
health care executives to develop and implement outcomes-oriented teaching programs and
curricula that prepare physicians and nurses to succeed in the U.S. health care system.

We tailor our approach to the needs of clients, as follows:
Faculty Development - We develop customized faculty
development (train-the-trainer) programs to teach educators
about the concepts and principles of competency-based education
and about Systems-based Practice and Practice-based Learning
and Improvement, in particular, as well as how to integrate
these content areas into their current training programs
or institutions. Click to learn about the THCI/UF
program and THCI's
September 2003 national conference on competency assessment.
Training - We train faculty, through customized workshops, on how to use and present and integrate
THCI educational materials into teaching programs for physicians, nurses, and other practicing clinicians.
Curriculum Development - We design modules that
support and extend existing curricula. Click
here for an overview of our approach.
THCI also offers faculty development programs—on an open enrollment basis or customized for
onsite training at your organization— around the following THCI curriculum resources:
One-Day "Train-the-Trainer" Workshop
THCI offers a one-day "train-the-trainer" workshop based on the concepts and approach of our
Curriculum Guide on Managing Care: A Systems-based Approach to teach about:
- Changes in residency training goals and approaches.
- Adapting THCI materials to teach about the new ACGME competencies.
Two-Day Training Program to Prepare Residents in Care Management
This is a two-day training program for primary care residency
program directors and faculty. The module provides a practical
curriculum aimed at:
- Helping residents and medical students prepare for practice in the new health care environment.
- Training faculty and residents on the fundamental principles of care management.
Attendees receive an extensive Instructor's Manual of the
full four-unit curriculum, including a CD-ROM, that can
be exported, modularized, and adapted to virtually any type
of setting, depending on the local health care management
market and resources available. The components of the curriculum
include:
- Health Care Management Basics
- Model Curriculum for a Health Care Management Rotation
and Clerkship
- Practicing Patient-Centered Care in a Resource-Constrained Environment
- Evaluating, Adapting and Using Clinical Practice Guidelines
Modular Workshops to Train Residents in Care Management
The four components of the two-day training program described above are also offered as standalone
workshops. Each workshop lasts approximately half a day and can be scheduled as needed.
